Game Animals

Tahr

Bull tahr can weigh up to 130kg (300lb) and are often referred to as the king of the mountain as the area they inhabit varies from rolling tussock mountains to to steep rocky cliffs. They can be hunted year-round but between April through till October they have their impressive winter capes and long manes. The peak rut being May-June.

Chamois

Chamois buck are considerably smaller than bull tahr weighing up to 40kg (90lb). Chamois can also be hunted year round depending on if you would like one in their dark winter coat or light summer coat. Their rut being May-June.

Fallow Buck

Fallow can be hunted from March-October with the peak rut being in April, where they become more vocal and "croak" they also become quite aggressive toward other males which makes for an exciting hunt. A mature buck can weigh up to 90kg (200lbs). Fallow deer can be found in 4 different colors. Melanistic, common, menil and leucistic

Red stag

Red stags can be hunted from when they have stripped their velvet in February through to August when they are about to cast their antlers. Peak rut late March to late April. A mature stag can weigh up to 200kg (440lb)

Whitetail Buck

New Zealand has two very small herds of south pacific whitetail. Because of the low animal numbers and the difficult terrain they inhabit, they make for a very challenging and rewarding hunt. Bucks can be hunted from March through to July with their rut being in May/June. Mature bucks can weigh up to 60kg (130lb)

Boar

Wild pigs are opportunity based or we can organize an exciting hunt with the use of dogs. Which is similar to how they hunt mountain lion in North America with hounds. By putting the dogs on fresh sign they then run after the boar until they stop it, they then hold it or bail it  until the hunters arrive.

Estate Bull Elk

Elk also known as Wapiti are one of the largest of the deer family. We have a small herd of Elk on our private game estate, which backs onto Fiordland National Park where Elk were originally liberated in 1905. Bulls can be hunted from March through to August but we recommend hunting during the bugle which in New Zealand is March/April. with trophies scoring from 300 to 500+ sci. Producing typical and non typical heads. mature bulls can weigh up to 450kg (990lb)

Estate Red Stag

Our private game estate Red stags can grow 500+ inches due to proper game management and breeding. They can be hunted the same time of year as our free range stags, from when they have stripped their velvet in February through to August when they are about to cast their antlers. Peak rut late March to late April.
